Caring for the Communities

GMC values its human resources. It invests in its field and back office personnel through formal and on-the-job training in league with government institutions and senior mining staff to gain competitive advantage, and the rigid observance of safety standards with emphasis on the Safety First, Hard Hat, and pre-emptive protection protocols in all the stages of mining operations.

Caring for people extends beyond the company core because it values relationship with Davao’s Lumad community, the diverse Muslim communities, and upland barangays with which it forged fraternal ties ever since it broke ground in the mountainous barangay.Aside from giving employment to the Lumads and other local households, GMC contributes to their food security, livelihood, housing, and other basic needs because it provides them with direct-hire opportunities as foresters, mining laborers, road mappers and guides, stockyard personnel, and property custodians.Altogether, Lumads and locals constitute about 60% of GMC’s human resource component in Mati.

Caring for Creation

GMC values the natural environment inclusive of the primal forest cover, water channels, and the habitats of local wildlife. It has instituted protective and conservation measures to safeguard these such as road signs and the careful transplanting and propagation of wild pine, hardwood, and fruit-bearing seedlings to alternative green areas.GMC’s forest tree nursery is tended by the labor crew who reforest areas traversed by the mining activities.

Expanding CSR

GMC is intent on intensifying its CSR involvement as it moves forward through the creation of a Foundation for the delivery of socially responsive programs like literacy education, livelihood training, enterprise creation and marketing, socialized housing, and primary health care programs for local communities in Mati City, Davao Oriental and Ayungon, Negros Oriental. We will work with our national and international partners and cultivating new markets in Asia and the Pacific for the good of these communities.

As a corporate mining entity, we aim to be equal to the expectations of our 25-year concession agreement to foster the principle of responsible and sustainable mining among the younger generation of Filipinos, especially students in the geologic and mining sciences with the same foresight as GMC’s founder. Their task would not be easy but with wisdom culled from the love and nurturing of God’s earth, the future of Philippine mining holds promise in the hands of small and successful but conscience-driven miners.
